I met Priscilla at the advance packet pickup at Fleet Feet Sports. During our conversation I learned that Priscilla has MS.
Priscilla is determined to keep an optimistic attitude and get the most out life. Her treatment protocol includes the MS drug Rebif (by EMD Serono and Pfizer), an interferon beta-1a drug (also marketed as Avonex by Biogen Idec). Interferon beta-1a is produced in modified e-coli bacteria. Rebif does not cure MS, but reduces the frequency and severity of the relapses and slows the progress of disabilities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avonex
On Thursday Priscilla ran the Ridgewood Turkey Trot 8K. After the race she tracked me down and gave me a huge bear hug as tears welled up in her eyes. She had never run anything like this 8K race. She was touched and overcome with gratitude for the event sponsors and the many volunteers and families who came out to spend Thanksgiving morning raising money to fight MS - and to one day find a cure. She wanted me to thank all of you wonderful sponsors and volunteers who made this event possible - and let you know that MS is not going to stop her from living a happy and productive life.
On behalf of Priscilla, I want to thank you all for generously giving financial support, time and effort to provide this opportunity to turn running into a tool in the fight against MS.
If you did not receive a race shirt, please email me and let me know what size you would like.
